What are the application deadlines?

Fall semester deadline is March 1st (February 1st for students on F-1 visas who are living abroad). Spring semester deadline is October 1st (September 1st for students on F-1 Visas who are living abroad). Summer session deadline is February 1st.

What are the admissions criteria?

Our minumum standard for consideration for admission is a 3.0 grade-point average (GPA) and Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores in the 500s in verbal and quantitative sections and 4.5 in the analytical writing section. We look for 500s in the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), which can be taken in place of the GRE. Three letters of recommendation are required, and we prefer to have at least one academic reference. Employers’ letters are also acceptable references. International students whose first language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimally acceptable score is 575 for paper and pencil and 233 computerized. In all cases, GPA and test scores are reviewed in the context of the whole. For example, a marginal quantitative score in the GRE might be offset by excellent grades in quantitative courses or a low verbal GRE might be offset by a good TOEFL score.

May I send in my application without the GRE scores?

Yes, just indicate on the application when you plan to take the exams, and make sure that you take the exams in time to meet the deadline. Your application will not be reviewed without the GRE scores.

When are classes held?

Fall semester is 15 weeks beginning in September and ending in December. Spring semester is 15 weeks beginning in January and ending in May. Classes are once a week Mondays through Thursdays. Class times are 4:30 p.m. - 7:10 p.m. or 7:20 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. We offer a limited number of courses on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m. for half a semester.

Are there summer classes?

Yes, four or five classes are offered each summer. The classes are held two nights a week for seven weeks.

Can you be a full-time student and take classes in the evening?

Yes. Three classes (9 credits) are a full-time load and it is possible to fit four or five classes in, either one per evening Monday - Thursday or two per evening for two evenings during the week. In fact many full-time students prefer the evening schedule because they can gain valuable experience by working part-time in human resources during the day.

How large are the classes?

Class size varies from 8 - 40 students, but most are around 25.

Where are classes held?

Most classes are held in the Janice Levin Building on the Livingston campus, where there are three classrooms.

How long will it take me to get my degree?

Most full-time students complete the degree in two years, although, if they waive or transfer in enough credits, it can be completed in one and a half years. We have a five-year program with the Rutgers Faculty of Management in which students in the organization management major take specific courses as undergraduates and, if accepted into the MHRM program, can complete this degree in one year.

What merit-based financial aid is available?

Our program has a limited amount of merit-based financial aid to offer. Depending upon resource availability, we offer fellowships.

What about part-time work and internships?

There are many opportunities to gain HR experience while attending our program. Our location offers possibilities of employment near Rutgers - New Brunswick. Each year approximately 30 students are hired for part-time jobs and internships in HR. International students on F-1 visas should be aware that they are ineligible to work off campus for the first nine months and jobs on campus are scarce because of the demand by international students.
