of the Institute for Management and Labor Relations in 1947. Today, the
Labor Extension Program is the umbrella organization for a wide array of
programs and services Rutgers University offers trade unionists, workers,
and labor relations professionals
Labor Studies and Employment Relations faculty are nationally and internationally known for the excellence of their research on a variety of topics. In addition to individually determined faculty research agendas, the LSER department undertakes research projects on contract from unions and related organizations.
We offer customized training programs for unions, assistance in establishing joint labor-management programs, contract research for unions and other labor relations organizations, and consulting for unions on a variety of topics and projects.

Responding to emerging issues and challenges facing workers and their unions, Labor Education Extension sponsors an ongoing series of conferences and forums that serve as an opportunity for labor leaders, Rutgers faculty and students, political leaders, and the public to discuss and debate topical issues. Recent conference themes have included Corporate Accountability, Public Sector Labor Relations, State Legislative Issues, and Organizing Professional Employees.
