How's the weather? Nice shoes! Did you catch the footy last night?

Some people can't stand small talk, but new research is showing it can enhance emotions at work and help build new relationships.

Jessica R. Methot PhD, is the Associate Professor of Human Resource Management at Rutgers University. She's the author of the research paper Office chit-chat as a social ritual: The uplifting yet distracting effects daily small talk at work.

She joined Overnights presenter Rod Quinn to chat small talk and chit-chat.
