The School of Management and Labor Relations offers a number of scholarships and fellowships to support its students. This is a general support fund for all SMLR students across both departments, and includes merit-based awards and awards to students who demonstrate financial need.

For current undergraduate HRM students
The scholarship was established through the generosity of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, in support of students at the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR). The award is one the important ways they are honoring the memory of their colleague and friend, David Waldman. The scholarship will be awarded annually to two undergraduates in the Human Resource Management program. The scholarship awards will be given to students whose academic achievement, financial need, and potential to advance David’s philosophy around human relations and passion for creating high-performing organizational cultures.

The founding committee members of the Levine Trade Union Education Fund coordinated funding activities to support projects which will perpetuate Herbert A. Levine’s name and memory. These projects have included, but are not limited to: a Herbert Levine Summer School for Workers, a Distinguished Lecture Series, and sponsorship of various programs and scholarships for the unionists and students in labor studies.
This fund provides scholarships for students involved with unions and enrolled in labor studies at Rutgers.

The endowed scholarship will honor the commitment of SMLR alumni to raise the profile of SMLR and support current students. The scholarship also acknowledges that SMLR Alumni recognize the School as a center of excellence in human resource management as well as labor studies and employment relations education.
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to full-time graduate and/or undergraduate students enrolled in SMLR based on academic merit.

The Paul B.J. Chu Scholarship is intended to provide scholarship or internship support for an excellent student enrolled in labor studies.

This endowed fund has been established to provide financial assistance to a college graduate for the purpose of obtaining an advanced degree and to encourage the study of workers and their labor organizations. An award will be made annually to a new student enrolling in the MLER program offered at Rutgers SMLR.
Awards are given to new, full-time students (taking 9-12 credits in a semester) in the MLER program who possess a Rutgers undergraduate degree in labor studies. A student with an undergraduate degree in another area of study or from another institution must demonstrate substantial experience within a labor union to be eligible for an award. Scholarship recipients must also demonstrate financial need. Students employed in a managerial position (outside of one in a labor organization) are ineligible.
Special considerations: New full-time MLER student who possesses a Rutgers BSLER or BALSER; must have substantial experience within a labor union if undergraduate degree is in another area of study or from another institution.

This annual fellowship is established by the SMLR Alumni Association to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in SMLR graduate programs at Rutgers.
Fellowships are to be awarded to students admitted to a SMLR master's and/or Ph.D. program based on demonstrated academic excellence as determined by the program administrator.

Professor Dick Beatty is an esteemed professor and scholar in the field of Human Resource Management, and prior to his retirement was on the faculty of SMLR for many years. In honor of his commitment to SMLR and upon his 25-year tenure with the school, Biogen IDEC, Boehringer Ingelheim USA Corp., Ms. Michele Bolden, the Ingersol Rand Foundation, and the Lockheed Martin Foundation created an endowed fellowship that celebrates the contributions Professor Beatty has made to educating leaders in the field of Human Resource Management, building effective organizations and creating value in HR.
Fellowships will be awarded to full time undergraduate, masters, PhD, or postdoctoral students on the basis of academic merit and demonstrated interest in obtaining a global human resource management experience, whether in the U.S. or abroad. Fellowships may be used for domestic study or domestic or international internship experiences, as recommended by the faculty committee.
