Scott Bentley is an Assistant Professor of Human Resource Management in the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University. He received his PhD from Rutgers University in 2017.

Dr. Bentley’s research integrates theoretical insights from the strategic human resource management, strategic human capital, and resource management literatures to advance knowledge on human resource-based competitive advantage – and disadvantage – rooted in the investment in, and management of, human capital. His research program is comprised of three interrelated research streams: 1) firms’ investments in HR and employees, 2) star employees, and 3) the role of human capital within the broader organizational context. His research has been published in top journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, and Personnel Psychology.

Dr. Bentley is an active member within the Academy of Management, where he serves on the executive committee of the HR Division, and has been a volunteer for the Division from 2017-2020. He currently serves on the editorial boards for Journal of Management, Personnel Psychology, and Journal of Applied Psychology.
