Join us for an action-oriented program on what would be the 100th birthday of visionary labor leader, health and safety activist, labor party advocate, worker educator, and pioneer of the concept “Just Transition,” Tony Mazzocchi.

Tony Mazzocchi Centennial Conference,
Archive Launch and Call to Action

June 4 - 5, 2026

Labor Education Center, Rutgers University
50 Labor Center Way, New Brunswick, NJ

Program Overview

This two-day event will explore several interconnected themes from Tony Mazzocchi’s work, both from a historical perspective but also with an eye toward the present and the future. Where are we today and what can we learn from Mazzocchi’s activism?

Panels and workshops with prominent speakers that worked with Tony or whose current work has been inspired by Mazzocchi.

Day 2: Building a Better Future
Interactive, worker-centered, action-centered day of strategizing, learning from the lessons of day one and applying them to the present.

The Conference will also mark the launch of the official Tony Mazzocchi Archive to be housed in the historic Labor Education Center. In addition to writings and other physical artifacts, the archive will also encompass a large-scale oral history project, capturing the voices of those who knew and worked with Tony as well as workers and leaders who have been influenced by his work or whose work is in the tradition of radical labor unionism that Mazzocchi’s work embodied.

Who should attend?

Labor leaders, activists, friends, family, and colleagues of Tony, anyone interested in the history and future of building a radical labor movement that centers the working class.

What will we do?

We’ll explore the themes from Mazzocchi’s work from a historical perspective and apply them to the present. We’ll brainstorm next steps for a movement that fights for economic and social justice. We’ll also accept archival materials and collect oral histories for the archive.
