The Equity Role of Community Colleges in Career Preparation

Community colleges have an essential role to play in helping students move along a path to a better life. Regardless of the path they take through the community college – transfer or workforce or both – students see the promise of a college education as the ability to earn a good living. Within the context of current reform efforts, this keynote address and issue brief presents career development as a central part of the community college equity mission and examines strategies to promote career development.
